📖 Overview
What Is PM Vishwakarma — And Which 18 Trades It Covers
PM Vishwakarma Yojana was launched on September 17, 2023 (Vishwakarma Jayanti), by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. It is India's first scheme specifically designed for traditional artisans and craftspersons who work with their hands and tools — recognising them as the backbone of India's cultural and economic heritage.
Before this scheme, traditional craftsmen had no formal identity as workers, no access to institutional credit, and no skill recognition. They were outside the formal economy. PM Vishwakarma changes this by giving them a PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID card, formal skill training with daily stipend, a toolkit grant, and access to concessional loans — all without requiring collateral.
Potter (Kumhar), Basketweaver/Bamboo craftsman, Mat/Broom maker, Doll/Toy maker
Food
Fisherman (Meghwal/Nishad) — for net and boat making only
📌 Note on Eligibility: The trade must be your primary livelihood — not a hobby. You must be working in this traditional craft using your hands and tools. Artisans in the same family engaged in the same trade can each register separately if they each practice it independently.

❓ FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions — Verified 2025
Absolutely. Women artisans are actively encouraged — particularly weavers, tailors, garland makers, and potters. There is no gender restriction. A woman practicing any of the 18 eligible trades as her primary livelihood can register. Women get the same benefits — ₹15,000 toolkit, 5% loans, and training with ₹500/day stipend.
After completing basic training, you receive a digital e-voucher of ₹15,000 in your PM Vishwakarma account. Use it to purchase tools from approved vendors listed on the pmvishwakarma.gov.in portal or from GeM (Government e-Marketplace). The voucher cannot be withdrawn as cash — it can only be used for tool purchase from the approved list relevant to your trade.
The current list is fixed at 18 trades. If your trade is not included, you cannot register under PM Vishwakarma. However, you may qualify for PM Mudra Yojana (business loan up to ₹10 lakh) or ODOP (One District One Product) scheme if your product is part of your district's focus product. These are separate but complementary schemes for artisans outside the 18 trades.
