Aadhaar is the foundation of almost every government service, bank account, and official process in India. If your Aadhaar has an old address — especially if you’ve moved cities for work or marriage — it can cause problems with receiving scheme benefits, opening accounts, and linking to other documents.

The good news: UIDAI allows you to update your address online for just ₹50, without visiting any Aadhaar centre.

What Can You Update Online?

Online Address Update: Step by Step

  1. Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
  2. Click “Update Aadhaar” → “Update Demographics Data Online”
  3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number
  4. Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  5. Select “Address” as the field you want to update
  6. Enter your new address carefully — match it with your address proof document
  7. Upload a scanned copy of your address proof document (see list below)
  8. Pay ₹50 online (UPI, debit/credit card, net banking)
  9. Note your URN (Update Request Number) to track the status
  10. Update is processed in 5–10 working days

Valid Address Proof Documents

No address proof? If you don’t have any address proof document in your current city, you can use the “Address Validation Letter” service on myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. A verifier (a family member, friend, or landlord) can digitally confirm your address.

Update Mobile Number (Mandatory for Online Services)

All online Aadhaar services require an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile. If your mobile number has changed, you cannot update it online — you must visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre. There is no fee for mobile number update at official centres.

Find your nearest enrolment centre at appointments.uidai.gov.in — you can also book an appointment online to avoid waiting.

Download Your Updated e-Aadhaar

After your update is processed, download your updated e-Aadhaar (PDF format) for free at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. This is a valid Aadhaar document accepted everywhere. You can also order a physical PVC card for ₹50 from the same portal.
