👷 Overview

What Is e-Shram — India's First National Worker Database

e-Shram is a national database of unorganised workers launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in August 2021. India has approximately 38 crore unorganised workers — construction workers, street vendors, domestic helpers, agricultural labourers, ASHA workers, beedi workers, auto-rickshaw drivers, and many others — who have no formal employment records and are largely invisible to welfare delivery systems.

e-Shram solves this by creating a universal, portable worker identity. Once registered, a worker gets a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) on an e-Shram card that identifies them in any state, any scheme, and across their working life.

Who Should Register

⚠️ Who Cannot Register: EPF/ESIC members (formal sector employees) and income tax payers are NOT eligible for e-Shram registration. It is specifically for the unorganised/informal sector workforce.
